How to edit your url to make it a download

Now that you’ve created a shareable url, let’s convert it into a direct download url.

New method

NOTE: A recent change (June 2023) has impacted some Dropbox users.

If your URL is www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/...

  • Just change dl=0 to dl=1

Standard method

Pasting the url you copied above will give you a url similar to this

https://www.dropbox.com/s/uxd2yv0oaqm48m9/bouncy-ball-yellow.png?dl=0

To make this a direct download url, you must do the following.

  1. Replace www. with dl.
  2. Remove ?dl=0 from the end

The above url will become the following

https://dl.dropbox.com/s/uxd2yv0oaqm48m9/bouncy-ball-yellow.png

Note: Clicking on the second url will start downloading the file.
